Monitoring my GAME plan

The course readings and class discussions have really helped and inspired me while working on my GAME plan. My goals are to design and evaluaate lessons using technology and engage in more professional development. I have learned several ways to incorporate technology into my lessons that I will bring to the classroom. I have also looked into professional development opportunities within my school district. Because of budget cuts, our professional development has been cut back and most of our training occurs in the schoolhouse. I plan to talk to my principal about allowing us to have more professional development about technology integration. Each week I continue to add to my action plan. I feel that I am learning so much and knowing that this will benefit me as a teacher is very motivating. The questions that have come up mostly pertain to my lesson plans. I have concerns that my students will struggle with too much technology because they are so young. I also do not have any help in the classroom and I am expecting 23 students in my class next year. I usually do activities with the students in the computer lab but I am very concerned about this coming up year.

  1. I have young students too and some of them will struggle with the technology. Others, tough, will excel and you can have them assist the ones who are struggling. They are very keen on showing each other new things they discover they can do. Push them, but keep an eye out for those who look frustrated.

  2. Thank you for your comments. I find that they like to help each other also. I usually pair them in groups of two; one high student and one middle or low student so that they can help each other. Do you use a lot of technology with your little ones? It is so easy to teach them at this age because they are so interested in everything!

  3. Jenn,
Your kindergartners will become Kinder-gardeners when given the proper seeds to plant. I know you will tender their minds and keep sowing knowledge wherever possible. The technology will come, just as it always has, so be patient and nurture this class, just as you always have in the past!

by the way, I have a Carter also...great name!

  4. I think many of us are finding that our school district provided learning opportunities are being limited due to budget cuts. I also feel that your concern about technology with young students is probably not as much of a concern as you might think. I remember sitting at a karate thing this past weekend and all around me were 10 and under kids on iPhones, iPods, video consoles, etc. completely efficient at the basics of technology. For this newest generations, technology is just integrated into their life almost seamlessly.
